Text Box: If someone gave me the chance to pick among thousands of pieces of bonsai sock for the best I would start by picking the material with the best roots. Roots, take them if you can get them because creating them is one of the most difficult parts of bonsai. A bonsai with great roots will stand out every time from all the other bonsai around it. Root work with bonsai is hardly covered in most bonsai articles, books or other media. Any information you can get on the subject should be welcomed. We certainly appreciate Russell taking this subject and presenting it to ACBS. The first time I meet Russell he was 12 years old and already serious about bonsai. That was when I was just beginning in bonsai. Russell lived, worked and studied bonsai in Japan. Joe B. Text Box: Review of the New Orleans Auction Text Box: All the familiar faces and warm welcomes, good wine and cookies made for an excellent start to what turned out to be another great New Orleans auction. Joe Kuhn, my wife Xuan and I (Joe Day) made the trip over to attend the auction. The selection of bonsai, bonsai, plant material , and pots was Text Box: very good. All seats were filled in the room with some people standing in the rear and stairwell area. The items went for a good price with very spirited bidding. We had to leave before the very end of the auction but I believe a large Buttonwood with a final bid of $600 was the top money maker for the night. Felix Text Box: held the gavel, kept the bidding moving fast and everyone laughing and having a great time. Hats off to Felix he does a great job. It was a fun, smooth run, great auction to attend. Certainly hope to make it to the 07 New Orleans auction. Joe Day
